Bio

He was born at St Joseph's, midsummer midnight and raised in The Valley of Taos.

People's poet, songwriter and musician Mercer Lewis carries John's nine pound sledge and turned blue at the age of seventeen when he went to a disclosed location in Mississippi. Standing at the crossroads. Light shined. On his return to Taos he had his first show outside of the open mike. Mercer opened up for the Delta Blues Man David "Honeyboy" Edwards at the Kachina Inn. A torch was passed that night.

Mercer set off to New York City to be a student of the New School. Hoping to find the Spirit of Change that the city has hosted many times before, he couldn't find it. He was early. After three semesters Mercer lightly put down school and left the city, but not before he hit up every open mike the city had to offer.

The road called next, guitar hung on shoulder harp in pocket he discovered our country. At a point of no return. Mercer rolled his iron pony into Denver at the birth of the Occupy Movement. With revolution finally in the air he breathed deep. It was his time to sing.

Pass the peace
When the storm is thick
And anger is in the blood
Pass the peace
To the left
With the sun
Pass the peace
Smoke in the lungs
Untie the knots of the tongue
Pass the peace
Rise up
Get hi
Pass the peace
I'll be your friend
Up under and in the sky
Pass the peace
You'll have it too
Pass the peace
I walk with you

Mercer Lewis sings his peoples songs

I am a Folk Singer

Grown in the valley of Taos Raised at the open mike
Where you listen to all
And wait your turn and time to sing

We are singing
It is our time
Time is beginning to begin again

Bless up

My Mother all ways told me I have a good voice
I know she said this because she wanted to hear me sing
I sing for ya Ma

I respect Her more than anything
She brought me here

Here I am

Enjoy here while your here
because there's no here there

You came to me in a dream early this morning
My eyes were still closed but my ears are always open
you said your name was melody
I woke humming your name

that's how it started for me
as far as i can remember
but my memory always travels
